Payroll Tax Assistant I

They are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Tax Assistant to assist in tax compliance efforts, ensuring accurate employee payments and timely filing of payroll tax returns.ResponsibilitiesSupport the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and annual payroll tax returns, including Forms 940, 941, and related state and local filingsReview, research, and respond to notices from the IRS and state and local tax agencies to resolve questions or discrepanciesPerform ongoing audits of payroll data to ensure accurate tax jurisdiction setup, including for new hires and remote employeesAssist with year-end payroll tax activities, including W-2 balancing, auditing, and employee distributionsComplete monthly reconciliations of payroll tax accounts to the general ledger and assist with resolving variancesMonitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations and help assess impacts to existing processes and proceduresSkillsHigh school diploma required, some college coursework or equivalent related experience preferred1–2 years of experience supporting high‑volume payroll processing; entry‑level role with strong growth opportunitiesStrong analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret payroll and tax dataProactive mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbove‑average Excel skills, including the ability to analyze and work with large data setsHigh attention to detail with strong organizational skillsAbility to complete work accurately and on time in a fast‑paced, dynamic environmentCollaborative team player who works well with others across functionsBasic working knowledge of Workday HCM and ADP Tax solutionsBenefitsMedical/dental/vision coverageCompany-provided life insurance401(k) with company matchSick/vacation plansAccess to our fully equipped onsite gymCompany OverviewEnsign Services, Inc. offers healthcare services including skilled nursing, assisted living, and rehabilitation.
