As a Payroll Accountant, you will be part of the payroll team which consists of functional experts who provide technical and administrative support to employees who work at Central Office, and MNsure locations, ensuring employees accurately record time worked, leave taken, and that they are paid timely and accurately.
The functions assigned to this position are split between the Payroll and Accounts Payable units within the Financial Operations Division (FOD).
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Assist with the completion of bi-weekly payroll functions so that employees are accurately paid and hours properly recorded.
- Review and process bi-weekly employee business expense claims, requests for temporary and/or annual travel advances and related settlements.
- Provide technical advice in connection with MMB and DHS's Special Expense policy and procedures for employees requesting authorizations to register to attend training conferences, seminars, workshops, and educational courses, as well as guidance for ensuring payment of the same.
- Auditing and reconciling payroll specific reports, updating and keeping self-service security accurate, processing of FLSA specific adjustments, and payroll email box delegate.
Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of administrative support, paraprofessional, or technical experience that demonstrates experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- Payroll skills and experience sufficient to analyze employee timesheets and payroll reports.
- Customer Service skills sufficient to be able to communicate travel policies and procedures applicable to employee travel and reimbursement of claims and completion and approval of employee timesheets.
- English Language skills sufficient to communicate effectively with agency employees, supervisors, MMB, and coworkers, both verbally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of building spreadsheets per use Excel, to create, modify, sort and summarize payroll data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge of SEMA4 (Statewide Employee Management Payroll) for processing employee timesheets biweekly and reimbursements of employee travel claims.
- Experience completing the review of travel claims based on established policies and procedures.
- Experience reviewing and auditing employee timesheets for accuracy.
- Experience using SWIFT (StateWide Integrated Financial Tools) the State of Minnesota's accounting and procurement system, used to enter purchase orders, payments, vendor numbers, and completing queries.
- Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
