The Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing recorded medical dictation into written form. In the Dermatopathology Laboratory the job entails listening to physician dictated material in one computer program and typing it into another. An extremely high-volume Laboratory, speed and accuracy is essential, as referring physicians are expecting biopsy results within a 24-48-hour turnaround time. The transcriptionist is responsible for proofreading the information entered at accessioning and logging phase as well as recognizing and confirming inadvertent physician errors. The Transcriptionist, though not patient facing, is part of a team that delivers an exceptional patient experience through ensuring biopsy report accuracy and timeliness.

Job Responsibilities:
• Type reports dictated by Pathologists
• Confirm accurate entry of diagnosis and microscopic descriptions
• Confirm accurate entry of any requested special stains
• Type corrections provided by Pathologists
• After Pathologists review initial transcription, type any hand-written corrections indicated by Pathologist.
• Type addendums and corrected reports dictated by Pathologists
• Add titles and subtitles accordingly
• Confirm accurate entry of results from the requested stains
• Confirm accurate entry of second opinion reports
• Correct errors on reports that have been finalized
• Type incoming consult reports
• Change Billing CPT code to reflect consultation report
• Type outgoing consult letters
• Confirm accurate entry of patient information on the letter
• Revise letter per Pathologist
• Print letter on letterhead
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalency is required.
• A minimum of 1 year relevant experience.
• Working knowledge/proficiency of Medical Terminology.
• Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills, and the ability to set priorities among multiple competing objectives, tasks and initiatives is required.
• Candidate must be well organized and be able to manage a demanding workload and moderately complex cases in an accurate and timely manner.
• Ability to participate as a member of a team, including demonstrating reliability, punctuality, professionalism, respect and adaptability to new and changing situations.
• Ability to work independently and multi-task with constant follow-through.
• Candidate must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Working proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $24.66 - $37.30

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
