Part-Time Housing Community Service Officer - Ensuring Safety and Security at San Jose State University's Residential Communities

Join Our Team: Providing a Safe and Secure Environment for Students, Staff, and Families San Jose State University (SJSU), a leading public university in the heart of Silicon Valley, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Housing Community Service Officer. As a key member of our University Housing Services team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our residents, guests, staff, and facilities. Our University Housing Services department is dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive living environment that promotes student success and well-being. With a diverse community of approximately 4200 students, staff, and families residing in our apartment buildings and residence halls, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate professional to join our team. Key Responsibilities Perform foot patrols of Housing buildings and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment Address Housing concerns and issues as directed by University Housing Services Staff and University Police Encourage compliance with Housing policies and regulations Report suspected hazards and criminal behavior to the relevant authorities Provide assistance to patrons and staff as requested, and respond to calls for services Regularly check-in with Building Desk during shift, and go on rounds with a building RA on Duty team on a rotating basis Serve as a police escort to residents, and monitor parking garage in Campus Village B to issue tickets as needed for unauthorized vehicles Utilize access card system, Closed Circuit Television surveillance system, and Fire Safety Systems and Alarms to ensure building security Enter requests into TMA system regarding maintenance, facilities, and security-related issues, and respond to alarms and emergency situations Assist University housing staff and University Police with crisis response as appropriate, and serve on University Housing Services emergency preparedness and crisis response team Submit reports and provide updates regarding incidents, and produce and enter reports into Maxient as needed Participate in regular meetings with Housing leadership team to stay informed and provide feedback Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you must possess: A High School Diploma or Equivalent A valid California Driver's License (out-of-state candidates must obtain a California driver's license within 10 days of hire) The ability to learn and apply specific Housing and SJSU regulations, as well as local, state, and federal laws Knowledge of, or ability to learn, applicable public safety equipment and systems Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports The ability to act calmly and rationally in emergency situations, and to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse community The ability to monitor/access CCTV screens, and to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Six months of previous police/security/military law enforcement training and/or experience Experience working in a residential setting, preferably with student populations Customer Service Experience, with a proven track record of providing excellent service What We Offer As a Part-Time Housing Community Service Officer at SJSU, you will be part of a dynamic and supportive team that is committed to student success.
