Job Summary As a Part-time ESL Online Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching ESL courses to students enrolled in Kirkwood's Secondary Programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching ESL to adult learners, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in an online environment. The position requires a commitment to student success, a willingness to collaborate with colleagues, and a passion for creating engaging and interactive learning experiences. Key Responsibilities Assist students with coursework in a variety of formats, including individualized instruction, computer-assisted instruction, and large group courses. Collaborate with fellow learning center instructors on curriculum development, student intake/advising, and staff development activities. Conduct CASAS assessments for eligible students and track attendance daily. Provide contextualized, scaffolded, and interactive instruction that includes cooperative learning tasks and implements ESL college and career readiness and CASAS ESL standards. Respond in a timely manner to communications and requests from program directors and coordinators. Participate in weekly team meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities. Perform other related work duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Ability to work effectively in an online environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to student success and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching adult ESL/ABE learners or working with adult immigrants. Prior experience teaching ESL or foreign language at any age. Bachelor's or master's degree in TESOL, Education, Foreign Language Teaching, or a related field. TESOL training/certification, such as K-12 certification in ESL, bachelor's or graduate studies in TESOL, TEFL certification, or completion of MN Literacy Council pre-service training courses for adult ESL educators. Skills and Competencies Ability to develop, enforce, and implement policies and procedures to serve a wide range of students with varying backgrounds, abilities, and personalities. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to use computer systems effectively for word processing, database management, and classroom instructional purposes.
