Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Part-time Recreation Teens Program Assistant (Parks & Recreation Aide). The Part-Time Parks and Recreation Teens Program Assistant will assist in the development, coordination, and supervision of recreational programs and activities specifically designed for teens. This role is responsible for ensuring a positive, engaging, and safe environment for teen participants, promoting inclusion, leadership, teamwork, and healthy social interactions. The position requires working nights and weekends to accommodate teen programming schedules; and, performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write and follow instructions; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Must have a Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License and a Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Level 1 required upon hire. Candidates must be available to work afternoons starting after 1 PM, as well as nights and weekends.

Desired Experience/Knowledge:

The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Previous experience working with teens in recreational, educational, or community-based settings is preferred, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and build rapport with teens. Dependability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential. Responsibilities include leading group activities, and the ability to lift recreational equipment (up to 25 lbs.) is required. First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) is necessary. Candidates should have an enthusiastic attitude, strong organizational skills, conflict resolution abilities, and basic knowledge of recreational activities. Experience in a leadership or mentorship role is highly desirable.

Special Working Conditions

The part time Parks and Recreation Assistant will work both indoors and outdoors, depending on the specific teen programs. This position requires physical activity, including standing, walking, and participating in various recreational activities. Evening and weekend shifts are required to meet the needs of the teen programming schedule.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
