Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Manager and Operations Manager, the Field Training Officer (FTO) is an experienced or senior member of the organization who is responsible for the training of probationary and experienced employees. Creates a pleasant, cheerful, informative and educational process by which employees can learn about EMS systems and its protocols. The FTO provides department staff with the support, resources, and education and training necessary to provide high-quality clinical care and customer service. FTOs are able to quickly and efficiently communicate solutions for improvement to employees in the evaluation/remediation process and function as a a resource to all field staff. The duties of the FTO are vast. They involve being a role model, teaching the field employee the policies of the department, teaching the employee how to correctly apply the concepts they learned in the classroom to field operations, and evaluating the employee on his or her progress in the program. New field employees will be expected to work with an FTO for a pre-determined amount of time, or until the FTO, in conjunction with administrative staff, determines that they are ready to work on their own. FTOs must also be comfortable in developing and implementing remediation plans for experienced providers. Reinforce and uphold the goals and objectives of the new employee orientation program. · Identify, evaluate and/or remediate individuals who are not meeting and exceeding defined performance standards. · Facilitate the smooth transition for new-hire employees as well as existing employees with expanding and/or changing job responsibilities. · Make recommendations to the Clinical Services Manager to improve various aspects of the training and QA/QI programs (This may include changes in specific study materials, technology, and standard operating policies, procedures, education and training · Mentor and coach employees, conduct performance evaluations, counsel and provide disciplinary actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results. · Communicate company goals and standards of excellence through exemplary daily job performance, attitude, initiative, and demeanor. · Act as an educational resource for field employees and management. · Provide exemplary patient care and customer service. · Provide classroom instruction in a variety of EMS related subjects. · Other duties asassigned Qualifications: (Must be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) Required: · Associate's degree required or equivalent combination of education and related experience. · Current MA Paramedic certification · Two (2) years' of EMS experience as an MIH paramedic. · Valid drivers license with a driving history that meets department requirements · Massachusetts EMS Instructor/Coordinator certification preferred or successfull completion of the National Emergency Medical Services Educator Certification Program within one (1) year. · American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS Instructor Certifications preferred. Must obtain within one (1) year if not currently certified. · Strong working knowledge of prehospital emergency care and interfacility transportation. · Strong working knowledge of DPH/OEMS Statewide Treatment Protocols Preferred: · Previous experience as an EMS Instructor with clinical field preceptor/field training officer experience. · Experience in project management, monitoring progress, identifying and resolving barriers and reporting status to management. · Experience with ambulance operating systems such as Rescue Net. · Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook Skills/Abilities/Competencies: (Must be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Strong computer skills · Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; detail oriented. · Ability to work with and effectively communicate with persons at all organization levels, including executives, management, and staff, and incorporating issues regarding highly confidential and sensitive financial and personal information. · Self-starter who can work alone and collaborate within a team environment. · Quality, integrity, and customer service focused with the ability to handle simultaneous projects accurately and within deadlines. · Ability to consistently and effectively function in a fast-paced environment that includes varying or unpredictable circumstances and numerous interruptions while exercising appropriate interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
