Pomona is a member of The Claremont Colleges. POSITION SUMMARY: The Office of Admission at Pomona College seeks thoughtful and detail-oriented individuals to serve as Outside Readers. Reporting to to the Associate Dean of Admissions who oversees reader training and the reading process, Outside Readers assists in the evaluation process for the college's entering first-year class. Outside Readers play a key role in our Committee Based Evaluation (CBE) process, where applications are reviewed collaboratively to provide a comprehensive assessment. This process ensures fair and thorough assessments of applicants' academic achievements, personal qualities, and potential contributions to the campus community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Outside Readers perform the following essential duties: • Evaluate applications holistically, considering academic performance, extracurricular engagement, personal essays, and letters of recommendation. • Participate in the collaborative review process by contributing to the written evaluations that support informed admissions recommendations. • Handle sensitive applicant information with strict confidentiality and adhere to all institutional policies and federal guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree required. • Experience in education, counseling, writing, or related fields strongly desired. • Familiarity with a liberal arts curriculum strongly preferred. • Strong writing, critical thinking, and time management skills. • Previous admission or application review experience a plus, but not required. Training will be provided. REQUIRED HOURS: Outside Reader must be available to read in pair with an admissions officer between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Overtime, holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the office. ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: • Temporary, full-time, non-exempt, non-benefits eligible. • The hourly rate for this position is$25.00. • While this is a remote position, the Outside Reader must reside in California. • The Outside Reader are expected to commit 30-35 hours per week. • Training will take place December 9-12.
