EIW (Essentials in Writing) is looking to hire Scorers for the 2024-2025 school year! This will be a part-time, remote, 1099 contract position starting in September 2024 and going until the end of June 2025. You will be able to set your own workload! Pay is dependent on how many students you elect to take on. See below for more information.

What is the Scoring Service?
Scoring Service is an extension of the EIW composition curriculum for Grades 6 through 12. The Service allows students to submit their EIW compositions for detailed feedback in addition to an overall grade using a provided rubric. Because the majority of students who use EIW are homeschool students, they are eager to receive the feedback and direction of qualified individuals. Our Scoring Team includes a variety of qualified individuals, including long-time educators and professionals with bachelor’s degrees in English.
The goal of the Scoring Service is the same as that of EIW as a whole: to help students become better writers.
Job Description:
• Scoring is a part-time contract position that provides critical yet encouraging feedback on the compositions of middle-school and high-school students.
• Scorers must be adept at maintaining an objective stance, evaluating student work without personal biases, and focusing on the quality of writing and adherence to the assignment criteria.
• Each scorer will take an assigned number of students ranging from 100 students to 150. Pay is $73 per student, regardless of the quantity of work the student submits.
• Scorers can work in any location with a strong internet connection.
• Scorers can set their own work hours but must return feedback to the students within a set timeframe.
Responsibilities:
• Watch a virtual Training Session (video chat) in August before the Scoring Year begins
• Provide detailed feedback to academic compositions through an online platform for the duration of the scoring year (September through the end of June)
• Provide feedback to compositions within a set time frame
• Must be able to put aside personal biases and score according to a provided rubric
• Respond to questions from students and parents
• Check for EIW communications daily
Qualifications/Skills:
• One of the following: Bachelor’s degree in English or
• Bachelor’s degree in education with middle or high school English-Language Arts emphasis/certification
• Middle school or high school English-Language Arts Teaching Experience strongly preferred
• Advanced understanding of the mechanics of the English Language
• Must pass a qualifying assessment
• Excellent written communication skills
• Basic computer skills
• Access to a home or office computer that meets the requirements of the Scoring Service and a strong internet connection (public computers are not allowed)
• Strong self-discipline
