Network and Systems Administrator

You will become part of the disruption which is turning traditional HPC on its head.We are looking for a motivated Network & Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. This role is ideal for someone with 1-5 years of experience in setting up and maintaining both cloud and on-premise networks and VPNs. The successful candidate will also have a foundational understanding of Linux systems administration and security patching. As part of the role, you will interact directly with customers and engineers, collaborating with their network and security teams to resolve issues and implement solutions.Key Responsibilities:Network & VPN Setup and Maintenance [~25% of time]:Assist in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud and on-premise network infrastructures, including Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).Monitor and ensure the stability and performance of network connections and services.Be a part of a 24/7 on call rotation for supporting customer VPNs.Will be dependent on team size, but ideally 2 or 3 days on, and then a break corresponding to the size of the members sharing the on call rotation.Customer Interaction [~20% of time]:Communicate directly with customers to understand their network and system needs, troubleshooting any issues they face with networks or systems.Collaborate with customer network and security teams to ensure smooth operation and resolve any technical challenges.Documentation & Reporting [~10% of time]:Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, VPN setups, system patches, and security protocols.Provide regular updates and status reports to both internal teams and customers.Linux Systems Administration [~20% of time]:Perform routine administrative tasks on Linux systems, including updates, backups, and general system maintenance.Assist in setting up and managing servers and services in a Linux environment, via tools like Terraform and Ansible.Security and Vulnerability Management [~25% of time]:Assist in applying patches and updates to systems to ensure they are secure and protected from vulnerabilities.Stay informed about the latest security threats and ensure systems are hardened against potential risks.Qualifications & Skills:Experience:1+ years of experience in network administration, system administration, or related fields.Terraform and Ansible are a plus.Technical Skills:Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and on-premise network setups.Familiarity with VPN technologies and configurations (IPSec, OpenVPN, AWS Site to Site VPN, Cisco IOS, etc.).Basic Linux system administration experience (RHEL, CentOS, etc).Understanding of security best practices and patch management processes.Communication Skills:Comfortable interacting with customers, both technical and non-technical.Ability to work collaboratively with customer teams and internal staff.Problem-Solving:Ability to troubleshoot network and system issues and propose effective solutions.Bonus Skills:Experience with network monitoring and security tools.Knowledge of firewall configurations and other network security technologies.Modern DevOps practicesKubernetes AdministrationRescale is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
