0109 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Job Summary: Functions in an expanded role using approved protocols to provide care that is age and developmentally appropriate for neonates, infants, and their families. Coordinates care through communication and collaboration with the patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Serves as a resource person for staff nurses and precepts NNP students. Education / Experience: BSN from an accredited school of nursing, NP from an accredited nurse practitioner program, Masters Degree required, BCLS required, NRP required, two years as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner preferred, Neonatal experience required Licensure, Certification and / or Registration: Current licensure to practice in the State of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse, Approved for advanced practice as a nurse practitioner by the North Carolina board of Nursing and North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners, Specialty certification as NNP is required Essential Functions: 1. Utilizes advanced knowledge and skills to provide nursing and selected medical procedures for neonates and infants 2. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate members of the health care team, including patient families 3. Works to improve the quality of care provided to neonates 4. Advances the care of neonates through participation in and application of the research process. Shares knowledge on a formal and informal basis with interdisciplinary team as relates to specialty area 5. Ensures the continuous quality of professional services by maintaining updated knowledge and skills 6. Maintaining current and valid licensure with the State Board of Nursing to provide continuous nursing services to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne disease(s) 7. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served Skills and Qualifications: Advanced clinical assessment skills for neonates Ability to make sound and timely decisions Ability to cooperate and work well with others Physical Requirements: Amount of time spent performing the following activities: 0% 35% 65% to to to 35% 65% 100% N/A Activity X Standing X Walking X Sitting X Bending X Reaching with arms X Finger and hand dexterity X Talking X Hearing X Seeing Lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling: X 20 lbs. maximum X 50 lbs. maximum X 100 lbs. maximum Work Environment: Subject to highly stressful situations Moderate noise environment Clean, well lit, and comfortable climate Potential exposure to airborne/blood borne pathogens
