Position Summary

Professor of Practice-Musical Theatre

The Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance at Indiana University is seeking applications for a full-time Professor of Practice who has achieved distinction in musical theatre performance, voice teaching, and voice pedagogy to join our nationally recognized BFA Musical Theatre program with outstanding faculty colleagues starting August 2024. Position requires specialization in musical theatre voice training as it pertains to the myriad of musical theatre genres of the past 100 years, as well as the decades of popular music that influenced those genres. Also of interest is knowledge of voice science, vocal health, and the ability to collaborate with members of the IU Voice and Speech Department to develop resources to promote optimal vocal health and wellness for the musical theatre singer at IU.

Position teaches applied voice lessons to BFA Musical Theatre Majors, and may occasionally collaborate with musical theatre faculty in classes such as ?acting the song?, the American songbook, building a cabaret show, audition technique, and the IU BFA senior showcase.

Position teaches applied voice lessons to 18-24 students per semester each year in the above areas of expertise. Position may be asked to advise/mentor students on independent projects and is expected to serve on some departmental committees. The department has a vibrant summer theatre scene, and experience with summer high school musical theatre training programs and the development of new musicals is a plus.
