Mortgage Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter to support our expanding lending operations. This role focuses exclusively on Non-QM loan products, including DSCR, Bank Statement, Asset Utilization, and Foreign National programs. The ideal candidate has advanced Encompass experience, can move files quickly, and understands how to assess risk on investor- and alternative-documentation loans. You must be able to issue decisions confidently, analyze layered risk, and work efficiently within a paperless workflow. Key ResponsibilitiesNon-QM Underwriting • Underwrite DSCR, Bank Statement, Foreign National, Investor, and other Non-QM loan programs. • Analyze self-employed income using 12- or 24-month bank statements, CPA letters, P&L statements, and alternative documentation formats. • Review rental cash flow, IO structures, reserve requirements, prepay penalties, and investor-level risk on DSCR loans. • Assess Foreign National files including passport/visa documents, international credit alternatives, and liquidity verification. • Identify compensating factors and layered risk while ensuring loans meet program matrices and investor overlays. • Review appraisals, title, hazard insurance, and credit documentation to ensure full compliance with investor requirements. Encompass Workflow Management • Manage end-to-end underwriting workflow in Encompass with high accuracy. • Review and clear conditions using the Encompass eFolder and tasking system. • Maintain data integrity across all fields and screens. • Add clear, concise conditions and track all documentation through Encompass. • Work closely with processors and loan officers through Encompass alerts, comments, and messaging. Communication & Compliance • Communicate approvals, suspense requests, and denials to Loan Officers and Processors with clear reasoning. • Serve as a Non-QM guideline resource for the sales team. • Ensure all loans adhere to internal lending policies, investor guidelines, ATR considerations, and state/federal compliance rules relevant to business-purpose lending. Qualifications & Requirements • Experience: 3–5+ years of recent Non-QM underwriting experience. • Specialization: MUST have hands-on experience underwriting: • DSCR Loans • Bank Statement Loans • Foreign National Loans • Technical Skills: Advanced experience with Encompass LOS is required. • Candidates without Encompass experience will not be considered. • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong analytical judgment, and ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment.
