Position LocationRemote TypeRemote Office Location (if not fully remote): n/a Job Description Underwriter We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Underwriter to. In this role, you will play a critical part in evaluating and mitigating credit risk by meticulously analyzing loan files and ensuring every loan meets our rigorous standards. You'll be responsible for a comprehensive review of all initial submissions, suspended files, and conditions to validate loan accuracy and compliance.Key Responsibilities: • Credit Risk Analysis: Conduct a deep dive into borrower documentation, including applications, credit reports, and fraud prevention tools, to accurately assess creditworthiness. This includes reviewing and analyzing bankruptcy filings, liens, judgments, and other financial records. • Income & Asset Validation: Meticulously calculate and validate income from various sources (pay stubs, tax returns, etc.) and review asset documentation (bank statements, retirement accounts, etc.) to confirm a borrower's capacity to repay.• Property & Title Review: Analyze sales contracts, appraisals, and title commitments to ensure the collateral is sound and the loan is properly secured. This includes confirming property tax obligations and insurance requirements. • Loan Reconciliation & Approval: Perform a final reconciliation of all loan terms, ensuring consistency across all systems and documents. You'll utilize specialized tools to confirm the loan meets all compliance, investor, and quality requirements before issuing the final approval and closing conditions.• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for loan originators and processors, promptly answering questions and providing guidance. You will also collaborate with other teams—including Closing, Funding, and Quality Control—to swiftly resolve issues and maintain efficiency. • Continuous Improvement: Proactively manage your pipeline to ensure conditions are cleared efficiently, contributing to a high pull-through rate. You will also stay current on all product guidelines and industry practices to ensure top-tier underwriting quality.Requirements: • 5+ years of related experience. • 5+ years of residential loan underwriting experience. • Demonstrated experience underwriting FHA and VA residential mortgage loans. • Demonstrated experience with Encompass. • Demonstrated experience working with Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter and Freddie Mac Loan Prospector. • Demonstrated experience with repurchase response and/or rebuttal review and response preparation. • Demonstrated experience working with Mortgage Brokers At Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, we’ve been committed to delivering exceptional service and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration since our founding in April 1996.We strive to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve by living out our core values daily.
