SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

The Lead Teacher will guide his or her grade level team to ensure that curriculum, materials, and pedagogy are in alignment with the IPS Montessori Program as well as the Montessori philosophy and core values.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Assumes responsibility for the implementation and development of the curriculum within the spirit of the schools’ mission statement and program philosophy.
• Serves as a member of the Montessori Advisory Council, helping to develop the strategic plan and IPS Montessori mission.
• Organizes, manages, and supports teachers with classroom instruction that is aligned with Montessori philosophies and Indiana Academic Standards.
• Ensures that Montessori teachers have access to, are properly trained in the use of, and implement with fidelity the use of Montessori materials as detailed in the Guidebook and curriculum guides.
• Collaborates with the building administrators to provide instructional leadership for grade level band Montessori teachers.
• Serves as a mentor for all general education Montessori teachers, focusing especially on those in training or newly trained, through peer support, goal evaluations, and team-teaching opportunities.
• Lead in developing, reviewing, and implementing guiding documents and policies aligned with the values of IPS and Montessori for each grade band.
• Other duties as assigned.

“Day In the Life” Overview

On a regular day, as the Lead Teacher, you might:
• Attends or leads a PLC meeting to help with the revision of a unit plan and support instructional practices.
• Meet with the Montessori Advisory Council (MAC) to plan for Faculty Professional Development.
• Review with the other lead teachers and administrative team to identify teachers needing additional support.
• Work with admin and other coaches in support of faculty as they learn Montessori practice, philosophy, and mission.
• Serve as the lead teacher at the assigned grade level band.
• Facilitate multi-grade co-planning.
• Support the design of unit planning and ensure alignment with established scope and sequence.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
• Experienced credentialed Montessori teacher and/or Montessori building administrator with at least 3 years of experience.
• Valid State of Indiana Teacher’s License.
