Middle School Special Education Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)
Join our team at DuPage Regional Office of Education as a Middle School Special Education Teaching Assistant and make a positive impact on the lives of students with special needs. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to provide support to students in a middle school setting.
Job Summary:
As a Middle School Special Education Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with licensed teachers and therapists to implement instructional plans, provide physical care, and support students with activities to maximize participation in learning and achievement of IEP objectives. You will be responsible for assisting students with learning and behavioral objectives, taking notes, and recording student progress.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists
Apply lesson modifications and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed
Administer curriculum-based tests/quizzes and ensure students record assignments
Provide physical care, such as diapering, toileting, and feeding, as needed
Observe, document, and reinforce appropriate student behaviors
Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress and plan upcoming lessons
Assist with non-instructional activities and maintain safety and order in common areas
Requirements:
Valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License
Experience working with special education students preferred
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Basic arithmetic skills and proficiency in using personal computers and software applications
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain confidentiality
Physical Abilities:
Lift students and perform physical manipulations as needed
Regularly required to see, speak, and hear
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel
