Middle School Special Education Self-Contained Teaching Assistant

Indian Prairie School District 204 is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Middle School Special Education Self-Contained Teaching Assistant to join our team. As a Self-Contained Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a full-time Middle School Special Education Self-Contained Teaching Assistant to work 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will assist students with activities to maximize participation in learning and achievement of IEP objectives. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and have a passion for supporting students with special needs.
Essential Job Functions:
Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists
Apply lesson modifications as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed
Administer curriculum-based tests/quizzes and ensure students record assignments and have correct materials
Provide physical care as needed, such as diapering, toileting, and feeding
Observe, document, and reinforce appropriate student behaviors
Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress and plan upcoming lessons
Assist with non-instructional activities and maintain safety and order in common areas
Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Basic arithmetic operations and ability to use personal computers and software applications
Sensitivity to individual differences and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs
Ability to work independently and take responsibility for completing assigned projects
Physical Abilities:
Ability to lift students and perform physical manipulations
Regularly required to see, speak, and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers
Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs.
Education/Certifications/Qualifications:
Valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License
Experience with special education students preferred
