Mep Drafter

Remote Full-time
REMOTE MEP Drafter

Job Description

The MEP Drafter will support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects by producing high-quality construction documents from engineer and project manager sketches, markups, and redlines. This drafting-focused role is ideal for someone who enjoys close collaboration with engineers, coordinating across trades, and working efficiently in both AutoCAD and Revit. The position is fully remote, offers flexible working hours, and emphasizes meeting deadlines and delivering accurate, well-coordinated drawings.

Responsibilities
• Prepare and revise detailed MEP construction drawings based on sketches, markups, redlines, and direction from engineers and project managers.
• Draft and model mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems using both AutoCAD and Revit, with work split roughly 50/50 between the two platforms.
• Coordinate drawings across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to ensure consistency, alignment, and clash awareness.
• Set up project files and templates efficiently, including establishing Revit project infrastructure and other initial software setups needed for new projects.
• Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and coordination prior to submission, making adjustments as needed to meet project standards.
• Actively communicate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to clarify design intent and resolve coordination issues.
• Support project deadlines through organized, efficient drafting practices and proactive workload management.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of drafting standards and workflows as the drafting department grows.
• Collaborate with the broader MEP team and, over time, potentially expand into supporting engineering tasks as skills and responsibilities grow.

Essential Skills
• At least 2 years of MEP drafting experience, preferably within an MEP consulting environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and modeling MEP systems.
• Proficiency in Revit, including Revit MEP, for 3D design and coordination.
• Hands-on experience coordinating across multiple MEP disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
• Strong understanding of construction document workflows and MEP drawing standards.
• Ability to set up initial project infrastructure within AutoCAD and Revit, including templates and project files.
• Mechanical drafting and design experience, including HVAC and mechanical systems.
• Electrical drafting and design experience for building systems.
• Plumbing drafting and plumbing design experience.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers and project managers.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, constructible drawings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience working in an MEP consulting firm environment.
• Experience with HVAC design and detailing.
• Experience with mechanical design and 3D design workflows.
• Experience with electrical design and coordination on building projects.
• Experience contributing to the development of drafting standards and best practices.
• Interest in growing into broader engineering responsibilities over time.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while remaining responsive and collaborative with the team.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a flexible work environment.

Work Environment

This role is 100% remote and can be performed from anywhere within the United States. The work environment is highly flexible, focusing on completing approximately 8 hours of work per day while allowing freedom in setting specific working hours, as long as deadlines are met and communication with the team remains consistent. The team uses AutoCAD and Revit extensively, with drafting and modeling work split roughly evenly between the two platforms. The culture emphasizes collaboration, open communication, and professional growth, with opportunities to help build and shape the drafting department and to become involved in engineering work over time. As a remote position, you will work in a digital, software-driven environment, collaborating with colleagues through online tools and meetings.
