As a solo founder-led startup, we’re growing quickly and looking for a reliable, experienced medical billing and coding professional to join us on an as-needed basis as we scale.
Role Overview
This is a part-time, flexible 1099 contractor role, perfect for someone who wants to earn extra income or desires work-life flexibility while using their skills in medical billing and coding.
You’ll play a key role in helping providers get paid faster and more accurately. This includes full-cycle claim handling, from medical coding to insurance billing to denial management.
What You’ll Do
Review and assign correct ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation
Submit accurate and timely claims to payers (Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers)
Manage rejections and denials; submit corrections and appeals as needed
Ensure compliance with payer rules and industry regulations
Work within client systems (EHRs, clearinghouses, portals) to track claim status
Coordinate with clients and/or patients to verify insurance info and resolve billing inquiries
Provide regular updates on claim statuses, collections, and outstanding issues
Ideal Qualifications
2+ years of experience in medical billing and coding (preferably for outpatient practices)
Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and insurance billing rules
Proficient in claim submission, follow-up, and denial resolution
Familiar with payer portals, clearinghouses (e.g., Office Ally), and EMR systems
Reliable, organized, and able to work independently
Certification (CPC, CMRS, etc.) is preferred but not required
Experience with Medicare/Medicaid and private payers
Bonus: experience working with solo or small practices, or in behavioral/dental/primary care billing
