Medical Assistant I - Ob/Gyn Sugarland
Minimum Qualifications:
High School or equivalent. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program. CPR Certification required.
Job Summary:
To provide technical, supportive, age specific and developmentally appropriate patient care functions for assigned clinical area.
Job Duties:
Ā Assists with patient flow within assigned outpatient clinic setting.
Ā * Responds in a timely manner to call-lights.
Ā Provides comfort measures to patient / family.
Ā Performs technical and supportive patient care skills, incorporating the patient's plan of care and following approved policy and procedure.
Ā * Obtains vital signs. Appropriately documents chief complaint and reason for visit.
Ā Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in the performance of duties.
Ā Accurately collects excretory specimens, such as urine and feces.
Ā Obtains blood samples by venipuncture.
Ā Accurately performs tests, such as basic urine chemistry using chemical strips, guaiac, Ph, blood glucose, UPT, and hemocult.
Ā Measures and records intake and output as ordered.
Ā Prepares and assists patients undergoing treatments, examinations, and procedures.
Ā Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential crisis.
Ā Under direction of physician, provides other treatments and care to patients appropriate to training, as assigned.
Ā Recognizes and communicates patient needs and unusual occurrences with patients / families.
Ā The MA will refill patient medications as requested, using the guidelines for the prescribing physician/provider in their assigned area and in accordance with the policy C51, Prescription Refill Management for Ambulatory Care Services.
Ā * Safely and properly administers medications as assigned.
Ā Accurately documents / communicates interventions and measurements.
Ā Communicates relevant information to appropriate health care provider.
Ā Under supervision, completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation on patient clinic record.
Ā Assist with medication reconciliation as required.
Ā Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment.
Ā Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Ā Checks equipment / supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability.
Ā Cleans equipment and returns to its proper place.
Ā Reports equipment and supplies needing replaced or repaired.
Ā Stocks rooms, carts, cabinets, etc. as assigned / requested.
Ā Respects and supports patient rights. o Serves as patient / family advocate.
Ā * Practices principles of patient and employee confidentiality.
Ā Utilizes available resources and seeks assistance in dealing with ethical dilemmas, as appropriate.
Ā Practices positive customer peer relations. o Consistently communicates in a professional and courteous manner.
Ā * Reports and seeks assistance in dealing with guest complaints / concerns.
Ā Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with patient / family and co-workers.
Ā Consistently responds to customer requests / needs in an appropriate manner.
Ā Participates in and supports continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic / departmental level, as appropriate.

Salary Range: Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and as needed on occasion.
