SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Pasadena LEARNs Site Coordinator, Principal, and Program Director, the Pasadena LEARNs Youth Leader works with groups of approximately 20 students, providing assistance, academic support and enrichment classes.
The Youth Leader is an unclassified position. Youth Leader jobs are not subject to the Merit System guidelines. Youth Leaders are not entitled to medical benefits or vacation pay. Youth Leaders are not assigned to a bargaining unit and are considered at-will employees.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or higher. All foreign degrees must be accompanied with certified equivalency from an agency accredited by the United States Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience: Six months of experience working with children ages 5-14.
Other: Consistent with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 and other related legislation, candidates for the classification must also meet one of the following conditions:
Advanced education, such as an Associate (AA) degree or completion of 48 college semester units or 72 college quarter units, or education beyond an AA degree - OR - pass a formal Pasadena Unified School District academic assessment that demonstrates knowledge and ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing and mathematics or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
Special License or Language Skills:
Possession of current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aide certificates from approved training program or must obtain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aide certificates from approved training program within sixty (60) calendar days from date of hire. Failure to do so, shall result in termination of employment.

Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)
Current TB Test
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Commit to a full-year program with excellent attendance
Create engaging academic and enrichment activities and lessons
Facilitate activities and transitions
Serve as a positive adult role model for children by displaying appropriate dress, speech, work ethic and attitude
Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required
Ensure that classrooms and program space are clean, organized and safe
Use positive behavior and classroom management techniques with children
Communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents, school personnel, and community partners
Attend and actively participate in all required staff development workshops, meetings and trainings
Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
