Part-time, Starting Salary $16.68-$18.51, Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
Position Summary Information
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of in student, faculty and staff.
This position is an on-campus, in-person role in order to provide the maximum availability to students. Consultants provide academic writing and reading support to currently enrolled Delta College students.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
Conducting both in-person and online synchronous and asynchronous consultations with students to develop their academic reading and writing skills for a broad range of assignments/activities (e.g., academic essays, reflection papers, creative works, lab reports, case studies, research papers, scholarship writing, visual presentations, blogs, textbook chapters, peer-reviewed articles)
Providing supportive feedback (using MS Word commenting feature) for online paper and/or presentation submissions
Meeting individual students ?where they are? in their writing processes and sharing relevant composing strategies (e.g., idea generation techniques, thesis and paragraph development, source integration, self-editing skills, and various citation styles)
Participating effectively in required orientation sessions, ongoing trainings, and regular staff meetings
Conducting outreach activities, including but not limited to WRIT orientations to familiarize faculty and students with the services offered in the WRIT Center, classroom presentations, customized workshops, and peer review group facilitations, etc.
Collaborating with developing college writers/readers in an encouraging manner that inspires their confidence and independence
Serving as a welcoming resource in the WRIT Center during shifts and maintaining WRIT Center operations: implementing opening and closing procedures, updating TracCloud schedule to reflect maximum availability and modalities, answering phone calls, responding to emails, greeting students, completing consultation notes/student recommendations efficiently, checking and maintaining supplies, and other administrative tasks
Ensuring FERPA confidentiality and maintaining clear, accurate, and detailed records of student consultations
Other duties include:
Completing research, webinars, eLearning assignments, etc. related to writing center/tutoring practice and pedagogy
Engaging in regular professional development activities
Creating WRIT instructional materials (e.g., handouts, brochures, videos, etc.) with supervisor approval
Developing outreach publications, such as emails and social media posts, to contribute to WRIT marketing efforts
Assisting with training/mentoring other WRIT Consultants through presentations, workshops, and one-on-one guidance and observation/feedback sessions
Collaborating with faculty and creating/facilitating WRIT classroom workshops
Serving as a helpful colleague to other Delta College faculty and staff
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree (preferably in English, Secondary Education/Language Arts, Linguistics, TESOL, Composition or in another writing-intensive discipline with previous training in and/or openness to training in writing center pedagogy)
Minimum of one year experience in teaching, tutoring, or otherwise supporting college-level academic reading and writing
Demonstration of excellent writing ability confirmed by two submitted sample papers and interview assessment
Demonstrated knowledge of English rhetoric, grammar, and usage, including familiarity with multiple genres and citation styles
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form
Ability to establish rapport with learners, colleagues, supervisors, and faculty
Self-motivated; demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision, and take initiative in fulfilling job responsibilities and maintaining productivity during ?down? times
Competency with basic computer technologies, including MS Office, TracCloud and other databases, student information systems, TEAMS, and Zoom video-conferencing software
Additional Experiences Considered
Bachelor's degree (preferably in English, Secondary Education/Language Arts, Linguistics, TESOL, Composition or in another writing-intensive discipline with training in or openness to training in writing center pedagogy)
