Job description: About This Role:

The Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking a 12-month Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor to join the Athletic Training program. Serving as the Clinical Education Coordinator for the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) graduate program, this position will oversee and plan the program's clinical education portion. This non-tenure track position will report directly to the Department Head.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide leadership and direction to advance clinical education (i.e. assessment of data, developing/opening new clinical placement sites, inviting new preceptors, etc.)
Coordinate all aspects of athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences, including but not limited to:


Initiate, update, and track affiliation agreements in coordination with the program director
Oversee student clinical progression, particularly through clinical placements
Complete evaluations, including student, preceptor, and clinical site evaluations
Work with and engage preceptors, to include regular communication, selection, evaluation, professional development
Utilize eValue as a clinical management platform to document student clinical experiences
Aid with policy development related to clinical education
Assist with maintaining compliance documentation for the health and safety of athletic training students (i.e. essential function standards, immunization/vaccination verification, etc.)
Work collaboratively with other faculty to advance the program goals and objectives and ensure an engaging experience for students
Teach undergraduate and graduate athletic training courses
Assist with innovative teaching approaches, including simulation
Advise/mentor graduate athletic training students
Guide student research projects, including evidence-based practice or original research
Support the recruitment, selection, and retention of students for the undergraduate and MSAT Program
Provide service to the university, department, community, and profession
Demonstrate regular scholarly activity
This 12-month position at the rank of teaching assistant/associate professor has a preferred starting date of Fall 2023, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Athletic Training (AT) faculty teach in the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) graduate program, the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Sciences undergraduate program, and other courses that serve the department. Additionally, AT faculty serve as mentors and advisors for graduate students. The MSAT Program received initial accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education in Spring 2023.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

Earned doctoral degree (PhD, EdD) recognized within a field of specialization or closely related (Public Health, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Science, etc.)


Terminal Athletic Training clinical degree (DAT) candidates are eligible to apply
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing with the Board of Certification - Athletic Training
NPI number with appropriate health care field designation
Eligible for Athletic Training licensure in Kansas
1-3 years of collegiate-level teaching experience, preferably in a CAATE-accredited program (undergraduate and/or graduate)
Experience advising and mentoring athletic training students through coursework/plan of study
Clinical practice as an Athletic Trainer beyond a graduate assistant position
Active membership and participation in professional organizations
Experience in mentoring undergraduate/graduate research or scholarly activity
1-3 peer-reviewed/published articles of research or scholarly work within the last 5 years
Contemporary expertise and prior teaching experience in athletic training courses (injury prevention and wellness, urgent and emergent care, primary care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, behavioral health, pediatrics, and performance enhancement)
Evidence of organizational skills and excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

More than three years of collegiate-level teaching experience in a CAATE-accredited program, preferably graduate level
Familiarity with coordinating interprofessional education activities
Contemporary expertise in areas such as public health, population health, informatics, quality improvement
Experience with innovative curriculum development/design (i.e. technology implementation, online teaching, simulations, etc.)
Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence with skills and experience to work with diverse individuals
Administrative experience within a CAATE-accredited program
Experience with program planning and operation, program assessment, maintenance of accreditation
Experience with the CAATE Accreditation review process, curriculum design, and pedagogy
Clinical practice as an athletic trainer in a setting other than intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic healthcare
Experience with Board of Certification (BOC) Approved Provider Programming and Administration
American Heart Association BLS Instructor
