Job description: SUMMARY STATEMENT
In cooperation with a small team of other Learning Support Specialists, each Learning Support Specialist is responsible for providing academic assistance to students within the Learning Support Center and facilitating the daily operations thereof. Collaboration with faculty and other departments is often required.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Director of Developmental Education and Adult Literacy Services.
This position supports the professional efforts of the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services and requires a proactive and cooperative team-based relationship with the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services, appropriate faculty, and other college departments as necessary.
This is a non-supervisory position. However, the Learning Support Specialists assist in providing direction to student workers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provides effective student learning experiences by
Tutoring individuals and small groups, both online and face-to-face
Delivering LSC presentations and academic workshops
Remaining current on applicable instruction and tutoring pedagogy in their content area
Cultivating a welcoming, service-oriented atmosphere for students
Supports the Coordinator of Library and Learning Support Services by
Maintaining records of services provided
Facilitating the training and scheduling of student workers, including peer tutors
Effectively communicating with coworkers about shared tasks, both face-to-face and electronically
Maintaining LSC materials and ensuring the LSC environment is neatly organized
Assists faculty and other departments by
Maintaining relationships with faculty to facilitate mutual communication about impactful changes to course design and tutoring support
Collaborating with other staff departments to ensure that LSC services are advertised and delivered to the students who can benefit, especially those at risk
As appropriate, providing information about student utilization of the Learning Support Center to faculty, administration, and coordinators of special programs
Serves on college committees when appropriate and performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline is required.
Two to three years of related teaching and/or tutoring experience is preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
Excellent written, oral, and computer skills;
Ability to establish positive working relationships with faculty and students.
