Position works when school is in session. Base hourly rate is $15.35 with additional compensation for past work-related experience and level of education.

Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.

Purpose: The Highly Qualified Teacher Aide assists in the operation of instructional or supportive services in the school system. To accomplish these tasks, the Highly Qualified Teacher Aide works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Responsible to: Principal

Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education

Qualifications:
1. Must have completed at least 48 college credit hours or have passed the ParaPro Assessment.
2. Desire to continue career improvement.
3. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Functions:
1. Assist professional staff in instructional or supportive services.
2. Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
3. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
4. Appropriately operate all classroom equipment as required.
5. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
6. Support the value of an education.
7. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
4. Occasionally requires balancing.
5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
6. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

General Responsibilities: * Prepare instructional materials and supplies for use.

Assist in the supervision of students in class, in lunchroom, on playground, and other areas as directed.
Tutor students as directed.
Perform specific instructional or related tasks as directed.
Attend staffings and general staff meetings as required.
Assist grading papers.
Maintain necessary records.
Perform general clerical tasks.
Set up displays and equipment.
Assist in the maintenance and inventory of materials.
Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
12. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
13. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
14. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
15. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
16. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:

Acceptable use of technology
Sexual and racial harassment
Child abuse reporting
Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
17. Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
18. Respond to change in a productive manner.
19. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
20. Other duties as assigned by the Instructor, Principal, Director or other administrative staff.
