About Our Organization and the Literacy Paraprofessional Role

At Jefferson School District 251, we believe that every student deserves the chance to reach their full potential. Our Literacy Paraprofessional program is designed to support students in improving their reading and math skills, and we are looking for a talented individual to join our team. As a Literacy Paraprofessional, you will work closely with classroom teachers and Building Administrators to identify the instructional needs of Title I students and develop strategies to support their academic growth.

Key Responsibilities


Administer reading and math tests to identify the level of student achievement and determine the instructional needs of each Title I student
Work with small groups of students and individual students in reading and math, providing targeted support and guidance
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student files, tracking progress and communicating with parents and families as directed
Attend in-service classes, building meetings, monthly program meetings, and district meetings to stay informed and aligned with district goals
Operate equipment, such as tape recorders, VCRs, overhead projectors, and copy machines, to support instructional activities
Design and implement a tutoring schedule for working with Title I students, ensuring efficient use of time and resources
Order materials and supplies, as needed, through the Building Administrator
Participate in the school community as a regular part of the staff, accepting supervision and other duties as requested
Maintain high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality, adhering to district policies and procedures


Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:


Minimum of two years of college or 32 college credits
Pass the PARA Pro exam (alternative options may be considered)
Knowledge and skill in teaching and using math and reading, including phonetic pronunciation of vowels, consonants, phrases, and words
Ability to operate a computer and software programs, such as word processing, email, and spreadsheets
Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
Ability to work with staff, students, and the public in a professional and respectful manner


Preferred Qualifications:


Previous experience working with students or in an educational setting
Familiarity with educational software and technology
Experience with data tracking and reporting
