Job Summary
The Library Aide Teaching Assistant will provide critical support to the library staff, enabling them to focus on teaching and instructional activities. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including circulation desk management, book processing, and supporting students and teachers during WIN (Work, Investigation, and New) block. As a Library Aide Teaching Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for students seeking general information and library resources, and you will play a key role in maintaining a dynamic and organized library environment.
Key Responsibilities
Circulation Desk Management:
Check books and other supplies in and out
Manage overdues and obligations, sending notices and follow-ups as necessary
Maintain and report weekly, monthly, and yearly statistics to the Librarians
Answer library phone, respond to general questions, and redirect as necessary
Collection Management:
Process and catalog new books
Shelve books, journals, DVDs, and other materials
Perform book repairs as needed
WIN Block Support:
Support staff and students with using MyFlexLearning to manage WIN offerings and sign-ups
Support WIN selection by students
Take attendance for WIN offerings in the library, including Peer Tutoring
General Duties:
Set up and maintain themed displays inside the library and in the corridor outside the library
Order supplies as needed
Manage the copy machine, teaching students how to use it and maintaining paper supplies
Maintain supplies for the printer (paper, toner) and student supply desk (paper, pencils, etc.)
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Familiarity with computers and online applications, including Google Drive, email, web searching, and online catalogs
Ability to process and shelve books, and perform book repairs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with students and teachers
Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment with a willingness to learn new skills
Experience with Follett/Destiny a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a library or educational setting
Familiarity with library management software and systems
Experience with MyFlexLearning or similar platforms
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The Library Aide Teaching Assistant will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with frequent interactions with students and teachers. The role requires:
Kneeling, stooping, bending, and crouching
Standing, talking, and listening
Sitting, walking, lifting, or carrying up to 25 pounds
