Lead Medical Billing Specialist
MeBe is seeking a Lead Medical Billing Specialist. Our organization provides ABA - Applied Behavioral Analysis, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. We are looking for an experienced individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. The candidate should have the essential skills to exercise good judgment and demonstrate professionalism.
We are seeking a person with a solid understanding of billing and knowledge of what it takes to get a claim paid. You need to know how to ask the right questions and be skilled problem-solver. Claims collections and speaking to families is your jam.
Job Tasks:
Β Submits claims, processes follow-up on payer appeals, and will communicate with manager on status of claims
Β Follow up on accounts receivable. Contacting insurance carriers as needed to get maximum payment on accounts and identify issues or changes to achieve profitability
Β Performs secondary (and beyond) billing follow up.
Β Process on-line adjustments to insurance claims.
Β Complies with audit requests by insurance carriers in a timely fashion.
Β When necessary, reviews medical records and resubmits claims with appropriate documentation to expedite claims processing (adhering to confidentiality requirements).
Β Accurately processes corrections on accounts and/or active claims by error correcting or voiding transactions. Posts appropriate adjustments as needed.
Β Thoroughly researches credit balances and processes insurance refunds or adjustments as needed.
Β Responsible for keeping up to date with current insurance billing requirements and stays current on new billing guidelines.
Β Actively participates in departmental and/or organizational process improvement initiatives.
Β Providing ongoing training for staff in billing procedures, coding changes, and updates to insurance policies.
Β Assists providers and staff in other departments with insurance and billing inquiries in a friendly and professional manner while on the phone or corresponding through email.
Β Works on special projects related to A/R clean up as requested by manager.
Β Performs other tasks as requested.
Qualifications:
Β Knowledge of Behavioral Health and ABA billing codes & practices, required
Β Knowledge of Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Therapy billing codes & practices (Preferred)
Β Computer experience is essential, including, but not limited to practice management software - Familiar with Central Reach a HUGE plus
Β Associate (Preferred) and/or Medical Billing Certification preferred. (AHIMA, AAPC)
Β Prior billing experience required, 3+ years
Β Medical Billing and Medical Coding experience
Β Familiar with most Medical Insurance Payors (Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, FFS, TPAs, PPO and IPAs)
Β High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Β Strong oral / written communication skills
Β Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while dealing with frequent interruptions
Β Possess a strong sense of urgency, organized and energetic team player who can work in both a team environment and independently
Β Punctual, dependable, and responsible; able to pick up and learn tasks quickly. self-starter
Β Excellent customer service skills
