About the Role:




We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in Node.js, MongoDB, EKL stack and distributed systems, combined with a strong focus on platform stability, scalability, reliability, and long-term technical excellence. You’ll be joining our LC Email Platform team, which builds and maintains core capabilities such as Emails messaging, Email Verification, Dedicated Domains and IPs, Warmup Tool, Email Inbox, and platform integrations that power communication for thousands of businesses.
Our Email platform currently processes over 1.5 Billion messages per month, and we are on a strategic journey to scale this to 4 Billion messages per month, aiming to become the leading BSP(Business Service Provider) in the industry. Similarly, our platform supports 450K+ active businesses using our email services, and we’re aggressively scaling this to 1 Million+ users as we expand our global footprint. This growth trajectory demands a leader who can architect highly scalable systems, anticipate platform bottlenecks, and design infrastructure capable of supporting massive scale with predictable performance.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working on high-scale, mission-critical platform components. You’ll take ownership of challenges related to system stability, performance optimization, distributed architecture improvements, operational efficiency, cost management, and security hardening across our Email infrastructure. You will drive architectural decisions, lead complex problem solving, reduce long-standing tech debt, and ensure our services remain resilient, observable, and compliant with various Email Service Providers (ESP) requirements.
As a technical leader, you will collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, and cross-functional engineering teams to design robust APIs, improve end-to-end delivery pipelines, enhance monitoring and alerting, streamline platform operations, and shape the long-term technical roadmap for the entire Email ecosystem within HighLevel. You will play a pivotal role in scaling our platform to the next order of magnitude while delivering exceptional reliability and performance for our global customer base.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in Node.js, MongoDB, and distributed systems, combined with a strong focus on platform stability, scalability, reliability, and long-term technical excellence. You’ll be joining our WhatsApp Platform team, which builds and maintains core capabilities such as WhatsApp messaging (BSP), WhatsApp calling, WhatsApp flows, number provisioning, meta compliance workflows, and platform integrations that power communication for thousands of businesses.

Our WhatsApp platform currently processes over 6 million messages per day, and we are on a strategic journey to scale this to 20 million messages per day, aiming to become the leading BSP(Business Service Provider) in the industry. Similarly, our platform supports 25,000+ active WhatsApp subscriptions, and we’re aggressively scaling this to 100,000+ subscriptions as we expand our global footprint. This growth trajectory demands a leader who can architect highly scalable systems, anticipate platform bottlenecks, and design infrastructure capable of supporting massive scale with predictable performance.

This role requires someone who is comfortable working on high-scale, mission-critical platform components. You will play a pivotal role in scaling our platform to the next order of magnitude while delivering exceptional reliability and performance for our global customer base.

Responsibilities

Stabilize & Scale the Platform: Tackle systemic bottlenecks, improve fault tolerance, and ensure high availability for mission-critical phone services.
Efficiency & Performance: Optimize resource usage (CPU, memory, network) to handle millions of operations while reducing cloud costs.
Tech Debt & Modernization: Lead long-term refactoring efforts, deprecate legacy systems, and introduce scalable patterns.
Security & Compliance: Strengthen data protection, access controls, and auditability across the platform.
Developer Velocity: Improve tooling, observability, and automation to accelerate engineering workflows.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with product, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to align on platform priorities.
Mentorship & Leadership: Guide engineers, set architectural standards, and drive the platform roadmap.

Requirements

- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including designing fault-tolerant systems and working on high-scale platforms.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processingStrong experience with relational and NoSQL data models (especially with complex temporal data)
- Proven track record of architecting complex systems and delivering scalable, high-performance web apps in production.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, API design, and microservices architecture in a multi-tenant environment.
- Skilled in guiding technical architecture, making high-impact engineering decisions, and mentoring fellow engineers.
- Experience with code quality practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and dev tooling optimization.
