The Impact You Can Make The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of laboratory duties within the assigned department, in order to provide appropriate service levels to both internal and external customers. The Laboratory Assistant I will be proficient in one of the following, the Laboratory Assistant II will be proficient in two of the following, and a Laboratory Assistant III will be proficient in all of the following: • Laboratory Customer Service • Phlebotomy • Specimen Processing Education/Accredited Programs • High School Diploma/GED. • Phlebotomy experience preferred • Experience in a Healthcare/Customer Service Environment or similar setting preferred Skills/Abilities: • Medical Terminology preferred • Proficient in keyboarding • Ability to use a computer and required applications • Ability to read, analyze, interpret business documents, policies and procedures. • Ability to effectively communicate both directly and via phone/email sensitive information and respond to questions from patients, customers, provider, coworkers, and vendors • Ability to recognize and solve basic problems regarding area of responsibility and to refer involved issues to the department supervisor • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers • Ability to work under stressful situations and able withstand the sight of blood • Ability to prioritize tasks • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in simple written, oral, or diagram form • Ability to read and comprehend departmental SOPS and safety manuals. • Ability to utilize basic ordering and inquiry functions within the Laboratory Information System. Salary Range The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $17.25 to $22.50 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
