Facer is the world’s largest platform for custom smartwatch faces, empowering a global community of creators and enthusiasts. We’re looking for a skilled Kotlin/Java Software Engineer to contribute to an exciting short-term project and help shape the future of watch face design.
Role Overview
Location: Remote
Type: Contract (3-6 months), with potential to convert to a full-time engineering role
As a Kotlin/Java Software Engineer, you’ll collaborate with our lead engineer on a critical project involving tools to enhance Facer’s compatibility with external platforms. This role requires expertise in structured data handling and creative problem-solving, with a focus on writing efficient, maintainable code.
Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain software using Kotlin and Java.
• Work with serialization formats like JSON and XML to manage structured data.
• Write, maintain, and enhance code that facilitates conversion to and from various formats.
• Collaborate closely with the team to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications
• Strong experience with Kotlin and Java.
• Proficiency in serialization (JSON, XML).
• Experience writing custom scripting languages.
• Strong math skills, including trigonometry, geometry, and techniques used in rendering engines (e.g., 2D transformations, vector calculations, and graphing).
• Familiarity with the Android Build System.
Bonus Points
• Familiarity with Google’s Watch Face Format or other standard watch face formats.
• Experience with the Facer platform or Watch Face Studio.
• Knowledge of OpenGL rendering or UI frameworks.
