Junior 3D Modeling Artist (Independent Contractor) - Role Overview
Role Summary
Malayla Interactive is seeking a Junior 3D Modeling Artist, to contribute to our current project as an independent contractor. In this role, you will provide the creation of high-quality 3D assets, from initial modeling to final optimization. You will work on 3D modeling characters, and environments, to create immersive and visually stunning assets for use in a project. You will be responsible for bringing environments, props and characters to life, ensuring every asset aligns with the creative vision of the project while maintaining the highest standards of performance and quality.
This is a Task-Based, Success-Based Royalty opportunity. We are seeking artists who have mastered the fundamentals of their craft and are ready to apply their skills to a commercial production environment.
The Workflow
As an Independent Contractor, you manage your own time and production methods. Our collaboration is managed through ClickUp.
• Task Selection: You browse and claim available tasks based on your expertise, with consultation from the Lead 3D Modeling Artist
• The “Statement of Work”: Each task acts as a mini-contract, detailing the Point Value, the Technical Checklist, and the Deadline.
• Vesting: Points are awarded upon the “Approval” of a deliverable and represent your proportional share of the 60% Contractor Royalty Pool.
Key Deliverables & Technical Scope
• 3D Modeling: Create high-quality 3D models for characters, props, environments, and other assets in line with the project’s artistic style and requirements. Ensure all models are optimized for performance without compromising on visuals, considering polygon count and asset performance across different platforms.
• Asynchronous Collaboration & Feedback: Coordinate with the Art Director, Lead 3D Modeling Artist, and Production Teams to ensure deliverables align with the project’s style, mood, and gameplay requirements. Engage in regular feedback via Discord, Google Meets, and ClickUp, implementing technical and creative notes to ensure all 3D Models meet the Studio’s quality benchmarks prior to final approval.
• Optimization & Quality: Deliver assets that are game-ready, maintaining clean topology and efficient polygon counts. Ensure assets are properly exported and compatible for integration into the game engine (Unity).
Skills & Qualifications
• Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability in 3D software (Blender, Maya, or Zbrush, etc.). You should be comfortable with the entire modeling pipeline (high-to-low poly baking, UV unwrapping, etc.).
• Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing a solid understanding of anatomy, environment composition, and prop modeling.
• Independent Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues regarding rigs or meshes independently.
• Foundational Knowledge: A keen understanding of motion principles, silhouette, and character performance.
Collaboration & Communication
• Point of Contact: Art Director and Lead 3D Artist
• Communication Channels: Discord/Google Meets (Asynchronous updates) and ClickUp (Task Management)
• Coordination: While hours are flexible, you will coordinate with the teams to ensure asset synergy.
Work Environment & Compensation
• Status: Independent Contractor (1099). This is a B2B relationship; you provide your own hardware, software, and workspace.
• Schedule: 100% Remote with fully flexible hours. You determine when you work, provided deadlines are met.
• Compensation: Success-Based Royalties. You earn a proportional share of the 60% Contractor Royalty Pool based on your total Vested Points.
• Professional Consideration: You receive an immediate Portfolio License to use your approved work for professional self-promotion (per Section 10.3 of the Independent Contract).
