DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General * Communicate and collaborate effectively with others. Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Specific * Develop and implement the use of effective instructional strategies based on the needs of students and district outcomes. Plan and carry out group and individual academic lessons. Promote a collaborative relationship with fellow teachers. Keep ongoing records including both academic and behavioral progress. Attend building staff meetings and applicable in-service professional development programs. Make proactive calls to parents and district staff concerning behavior, grades, attendance, school conferences, etc. Participate and prepare information for evaluations and progress review meetings as determined by the district. Establish working relationships with and provide feedback to administrators, parents, and community agencies. Monitor classroom and building space for safety hazards. Monitor student behavior during classroom and passing periods. Select and utilize a repertoire of all types of music that are appropriate for age and skill level of pupils. Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students. Evaluate pupils’ musical growth and performance; prepare progress reports for students enrolled in orchestral activities and make suggestions for improvement. Maintain open communication with parents regarding pupils’ progress or concerns regarding pupils. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an atmosphere in the classroom conducive to learning and an orderly environment during group rehearsals and performances. Organize and maintain school-owned music, instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs for instruments as required.
