The Investment Management Paralegal will be responsible for preparing Securities and Exchange Commission filings and assisting attorneys in various compliance-related tasks.ResponsibilitiesPerforms a variety of basic and increasingly complex paralegal assignments under the supervision of attorneys and with the guidance of supervisory or experienced paralegalsPrepares project timelines and serves as the “gatekeeper” for ongoing projects, monitoring progress to ensure that projects remain on track and maintaining organized project filesServes as the primary contact for financial printers and filing agents and liaises, coordinates, oversees, and facilitates the filing process to file electronic filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission through its EDGAR databaseAssists attorneys in the preparation of various disclosure documents, such as mutual fund prospectuses and Statements of Additional Information (and supplements thereto), Part Cs, and proxy materialsAssists attorneys in the preparation of various disclosure documents related to the registration of investment advisers and broker-dealers, such as Form ADVs and Uniform Applications for Broker-Dealer Registration (Form BD) and coordinates and assists with the filing process to file with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, as applicableInteracts with clients and working team members to distribute draft documents for review and to coordinate receipt and reconciliation of client comments on distributionsPrepares agendas and materials for client boards of trustees and directors meetingsPrepares and maintains compliance calendars for ongoing and anticipated projects, including anticipated regulatory filings and annual board approval itemsComposes first drafts of memoranda and other communications for clients and attorneysPrepares minutes for client boards of trustees and directors meetingsProofreads various documentsOrganizes and maintains client records and files, including ERooms and other web-based client sites, and makes client documents and files easily accessible for attorneys and working groupsPerforms research of federal and state securities laws and other practice related mattersDemonstrates good judgment and ingenuity to apply knowledge to assess alternatives and to identify and recommend solutionsGains solid experience with common processes, best practices, and frequently used methods and systemsOver time, acquires and grows knowledge of the federal securities laws and legal concepts and terminology and demonstrates the ability to apply such knowledge to daily tasks to contribute to work product in a thoughtful and effective mannerLearns and applies solid computer skills and becomes proficient with practice-specific technologies and databases (e.g., Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system, Investment Adviser Registration Depository (IARD), Intellegize, CCH online) and becomes increasingly proficient with such technologies and databasesPerforms other duties as assignedSkillsBachelor's degree from an accredited four-year collegeStrong leadership and organizational skillsStrong attention to detailStrong communication skills (written and verbal)Ability to think critically and see “big picture” effectsAbility to multi-task and shift priorities to meet moving and demanding deadlinesAbility to follow up and follow through on tasks and project deadlinesAbility to interact effectively and work well in a team environmentAbility to be proactive and a self-starter to serve as a “go to” person for both internal and external needsAbility to maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm affairsA cover letter describing how your values, goals and experience align with the position at Morgan Lewis is expectedBenefitsMedical coverage, with a variety of plansHealth care and dependent care reimbursement accountsDomestic partner coverageParental leaveVacation and holiday leaveLife and accident insuranceIncome protection, including sick leave, salary continuation, and long term disability.Company OverviewFrom our offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, we work with clients ranging from established, global Fortune 100 companies to enterprising startups.
