Internships at APA - Monitor on Psychology, Neuroscience/Neuropsychology Communications Internship

We are currently accepting applications for a summer 2026 internship.
APA's editorial team produces the award-winning flagship publication, the Monitor on Psychology, as well as newsletters such as Six Things, Practice Update, and Science Spotlight. This position reports to the managing editor of the Monitor. The Monitor, APA's #1 rated benefit, is read by all members and covers issues of importance to all types of psychologists, including practitioners, scientists, researchers, educators, consultants, and students.
This internship offers a college student the opportunity to gain real-world experience in professional communications while exploring the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, neuropsychology, and editorial work. You'll work directly with experienced managing editors who produce content for a professional psychology and general audiences, learning the fundamentals of writing, editing, and content development in a virtual professional setting.
Throughout the summer, you'll build practical skills through hands-on projects and tutorials while getting an inside look at how expert communicators translate complex neuroscience and psychological topics for diverse readers. This is a learning-focused role designed to give you meaningful experience and mentorship. Internships are available to those who receive academic credit or can arrange for their own funding.
What You'll Do:

Work alongside managing editors to learn how professional newsletters and publications are created with no less than a 50% focus on neuroscience and related topics
Work with neuroscientist experts and psychologists on staff, create a list of all of the cutting edge neuroscience research we should cover in the next year
Pitch ideas for cover
Develop writing and editing skills through guided projects
Assist with research, fact-checking, and content development for neuroscience and psychology-related articles
Gain exposure to how neuroscience and psychology topics are communicated to professional audiences
Participate in editorial meetings and learn the behind-the-scenes work of content creation
Receive mentorship and feedback from experienced communications professionals

What We're Looking For:

Current undergraduate college student
Strong writing ability
Curiosity about neuroscience, psychology, including but not limited to clinical psychology, research, public interest psychology, education, or a related field.
Willingness to learn and receive feedback
Self-motivated and able to thrive in an online office environment (all work will be online)
Bonus: experience writing for your school newspaper, website, or other publications
Available for roughly 30 hours per week for 8 weeks in June and July.
