Intern - New Energy Technologies, South Asia

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Energy Technology Intern to support our research projects in energy and sustainability. This role involves extensive secondary research complemented by primary research to derive thoughtful analysis and outputs. You will work closely with a collaborative team, contributing to key insights that shape strategies and policy recommendations for accelerating the deployment of new energy technologies.

The ideal candidate should be adept at internet search tools and software such as spreadsheets, presentation decks, and word processors. Further, the candidate should be patient, meticulous, and have prior experience in data collection and analysing data for research purposes.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist in primary and secondary research to collect data and information on new energy technologies, such as green hydrogen and energy storage
• Work closely with the team to undertake the following in green hydrogen and energy storage space:

Green Hydrogen:
• * Track global green hydrogen developments and trends concerning policies, regulations, and market development
• Understand and decipher the evolving definition and standards of green hydrogen
• Identify policy and market drivers for green hydrogen investments
• Assist in developing policy recommendations based on the challenges being faced by the industry

Energy Storage:
• * Track energy storage deployment by technology
• Analyse various use cases for energy storage technologies
• Identify policy and regulatory gaps that are hindering the deployment of energy storage technologies
• Track innovation in energy storage technology development and deployment (business models) globally
• Support the preparation of research notes, datasets, reports, and presentations
• Participate actively in team discussions, brainstorming sessions, and reviews

Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Energy Studies, Public Policy, Management, CFA, or related fields.
• Experience in data collection and secondary research (academic or professional).
• Strong Interest in renewable energy, climate finance, and sustainable development is highly preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, and extract relevant information from complex reports and datasets.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and patience in data-driven work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data organization tools.

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience or understanding of the energy industry.
• Familiarity with visualization tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Tableau) or statistical tools (e.g., Stata, R, Python).

Compensation and Benefits

6-month fixed-term internship contract at a market-competitive remuneration.

Work Schedule

5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.

Travel

Some travel is required. All team members attend IEEFA’s team retreat.

Physical Demand and Work Environment.

Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
