Insurance Coverage Counsel – Workers’ Compensation Focus

They are seeking an Insurance Coverage Counsel focused on Workers’ Compensation to evaluate complex coverage scenarios, guide litigation strategy, and communicate with policyholders and stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesTriage referrals, assess case facts, and determine coverage applicability using internal systems and state databasesDraft formal coverage responses for policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders. Manage communications throughout the case lifecycleAssign and oversee defense counsel, develop litigation strategies, and assemble supporting evidenceInterpret Workers’ Compensation policies across voluntary and residual markets, including terminations, non-renewals, and lapsesAddress state-specific protocols, 'Other States' provisions, and third-party insured claimsIdentify coverage trends and recommend corrective actions to improve outcomes and reduce riskWork closely with Legal, Claims, and other departments on subpoena responses, invoice processing, and litigation monitoringSkillsJuris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualificationMinimum of 1–2 years of experience in the legal field, including Workers' CompensationStrong analytical and organizational skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesCollaborative mindset and adaptability in a fast-paced environmentDetail-oriented and deadline-driven3–5 years' experience in Workers' Compensation, insurance coverage, claims, and litigationFamiliarity with first-party property coverageBenefitsHybrid schedule: 2 days remote / 3 in‑officePredictable hours (no nights, weekends, or holidays)Competitive pay + generous PTOMedical, dental & vision starting day one401(k), tuition reimbursement & longevity bonusesCompany OverviewBerkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies offers property, casualty and commercial insurance solutions.
