Based on their intent and legacy, our grantmaking has always been focused on improving the lives of low-income families in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Initially, the Foundation funded a variety of non-profit organizations doing exceptional work in our communities. However, starting in 2010, we became more focused in our efforts, primarily partnering with organizations helping families earn a living wage, save for the future and become active community participants. Additionally, more recent events have driven us to reimagine our work and how best to support low-income people in our community, primarily people of color and immigrants. Based on our founders’ values and Catholic Social Teaching, we are striving to create an equitable East Bay where everyone thrives, belongs, contributes to the common good and participates in shaping the future. We recently completed a new strategic plan that centers equity at the core of all that we do. As we work to advance equity in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, we will focus our resources going forward in two areas: Economic Justice and Immigrant Rights and Inclusion. Job Summary: The Program Officer will implement our new strategies in Immigrant Rights and Inclusion, to create an East Bay that values immigrants and protects their rights. Policy advocacy will be the primary tool that we fund to foster local government commitment to immigrant well-being and inclusion. We also anticipate funding programs and initiatives that build immigrant power and advance a welcoming narrative. The ideal candidate will be a leader in the immigrant rights and inclusion space, with experience designing, delivering and/or evaluating programs and policies that improve the well-being of immigrants. They will serve as the Foundation’s primary expert in immigrant rights and inclusion, identifying and screening prospective grant investments, recommending new grants and collaborations to reach our impact goals, while building relationships with grantee and sector leaders. The position reports to the CEO. Duties / Responsibilities: Grantmaking: Responsible for reviewing grant proposals, grant reports, conducting site visits, evaluating, and recommending grants to the Board of Directors, under the direction of the CEO; Provide exceptional customer service to applicants and grantees to facilitate their grant requests and reports on the Foundation’s online system; Develop and maintain a current pipeline of prospective grants; monitor budget commitments to ensure annual program and payout goals are successfully met; Conduct research, analysis and write strategy papers for key foundation priorities initiatives and emerging issues; Partner with the Economic Justice Program Officer to identify and develop funding opportunities at the intersection of both program areas. Grants Management: Work closely with administrative staff to ensure monitoring and management of grants awarded and online inquiries are streamlined; Utilize electronic grant management system to maintain grant database and ensure that all grant documentation is complete, accurate and current; Review grant agreements, award and payment letters, process grant reports, manage payment schedules and respond to applicant inquiries by phone and e-mail. External Leadership: Plan and conduct convenings of grantees, topical experts and key stakeholders to advance grantmaking goals, as needed; Work effectively and collegially with a diverse community of nonprofit organizations, including culturally, racially and language diverse organizations. Internal Leadership and Support: Support CEO in planning and coordinating monthly Foundation Board meetings to include conducting research, preparing framing comments and writing meeting summaries for CEO reports to the Board; Actively participate in a culture of learning within the organization and professional development to include identifying opportunities to improve the grantmaking process; Be committed to the Foundation’s mission and values and modeling those values internally and externally; Contribute to the Foundation’s racial equity work and foster a culture of diversity and collaboration; Provide general administrative support in this small office environment where everyone pitches in as needed. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline; at least 5 years of professional experience as a practitioner and/or grant maker in the field of immigrant rights and inclusion, preferred; or relevant experience can be substituted for formal education; Previous experience/knowledge working in diverse immigrant communities; Ability to coach, support and provide technical assistance to grantees, as needed; Ability to analyze financial statements and determine financial health of grant applicant organizations; Proficiency in the MS Office suite of products; familiarity grant management and database software; Exemplary oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; Astute organizational, time management, attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, problem-solving and leadership skills; Ability to work well alone and within a small team environment. Compensation: $120K annual base salary, for this full-time exempt position Benefits: Health insurance paid at 80% of the employee’s premiums and 60% of the employee’s dependents; 401(K) with a 5% annual company match and 10% unmatched by the company (total of 15% annually), which is fully vested after 3 years; Paid vacation accrued from start date at a rate of 1.33 on a monthly basis up to 16 days annually; increasing to 21 days in years 2 – 5; increasing to 26 days in year 6; Paid sick time accrued from start date at a rate of .83 per month and capped up to 30 days annually; Long-term disability for employee only. Working Hours: 9:00AM – 5:30PM Monday through Friday Location: Moraga, CA - 100% in office through the training period, then hybrid working at least 3 days per week in the office, including Mondays and Thursdays.
