Job Overview
As a Per Diem Residential Counselor, you will play a vital role in our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP), providing supervision, guidance, and support to residents in their daily routine. You will be responsible for creating a healthy, therapeutic, and safe environment for residents and their children, and will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide supervision, protection, and care of residents individually and in groups at all times
Assist residents in working with a group and in handling individual problems
Administer discipline and set limits for behavior
Document residents' progress, identify possible needs for professional services, and communicate findings to professional staff
Ensure the safety of residents while transporting them to and from appointments as needed
Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne's, licensing, HIPAA, and other regulatory agencies
Secondary Job Duties:
Participate in mandatory trainings, in-service, and meetings
Maintain regular, consistent, and timely attendance
Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) of the agency
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet one of the following qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
A valid Child Development Teaching Permit
Completion of 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, Foster and Kinship Care Education, or Psychology, and at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth
A valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth
A valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that you are a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills, and at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience
Previous employment as a full-time staff or volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year
Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma
Essential Skills and Competencies:
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier
Physical ability to perform Pro-ACT, administer first aid/CPR, and operate an agency motor vehicle
Ability to independently use a computer and learn necessary computer programs
Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback
