• As a senior technical leader within the Cloud & Engineering Platforms function, you will combine your years of expertise to modernize, transform and innovate through solid engineering practices.
• Your deep knowledge of Cloud native application design, Infrastructure as a code and cutting edge DevSecOps practices will be key to business and technology transformation.
What you'll do
• Partner with a highly inspired and inquisitive team of technologists who are already developing and deploying applications to the highest standards.
• Lead the buildout of cutting edge engineering platforms and solutions that accelerate the modernization of the American Airlines applications. Most importantly you will focus on self-service platform capacities with heavy emphasis on discoverability and automation.
• Partner with application team technical SMEs and utilize your cloud migration experience to guide the application teams to make the right technology choices and build true cloud native 12-factor applications.
• Explore emerging technologies/practices and develops prototypes and concepts/ideas with little or no guidance; incorporates these into architectural solution when appropriate.
• Work in an open, collaborative, trusting and thought-provoking environment, one that encourages diversity of thoughtful and creative solutions; one that supports experimentation with a fall forward culture.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or equivalent experience
• 8 years of application systems development experience
• 5 years architectural and design experience
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
• Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
• 5 years of technical or team leadership experience
• 2+ years' Cloud architecture or development experiences in Azure and/or AWS
• 2+ years' experience in Agile methodology
• 2+ years' experience in DevOps deployment processes
• Airline industry experience and multiple domain knowledges, such as passenger reservation, customer experience, flight operations, crew management, yield management and pricing, codeshare alliances, merchandizing, distribution etc.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
• Background in Enterprise/Solutions Architecture or software engineering, with Java development background
• Command of architecture, design patterns and business processes
• Mastery of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines
• Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices
• Expertise in working in in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals, and passionate about building an innovative culture
• Experienced in technology transformations and migration to one or more Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI
• Strong technical leader able to drive to outcomes and mentor delivery teams
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) tools and platforms
• Hands-on experience with containers and container orchestration platforms (aka Docker & Kubernetes)
• Expertise in one or more cloud native relational databases such as MySql, PostgreSql and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and MongoDB highly desired
• Demonstrated track record in building platforms and tools that accelerate technology transformations
• Expertise with databases and migration to/from enterprise class databases highly desired
