Hybrid Medical Financial Counselor

Our Financial Counselor is responsible for ensuring correct processing of all patient accounts and coordinating all facets for patient accounts, credits and collection of Accounts Receivable. This role ensures duties are completed accurately and timely while acting as a team player for optimum office flow and excellent patient account care. The Financial Counselor may be responsible for verifying insurance and providing financial counseling to assist with self-pay accounts, as well as billing and collection of insurance and self-pay accounts. The Financial Counselor works in a collaborative relationship with the financial team as well as with other departments and employees. Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Key Responsibilities: • Provide financial counseling to prospective and current patients, focusing on retention and problem-solving. • Build and maintain ongoing relationships to support patients through the financial aspects of treatment. • Serve as a liaison between patients, internal departments, and insurance carriers to resolve account inquiries. • Communicate fees and financial plan options in person or over the phone; establish and document payment plans. • Collect fees at treatment start, send payment reminders, and manage insurance authorizations and benefit verifications. • Assist with insurance forms, address unpaid balances, and verify account accuracy, including refunds. • Guide patients through financial aid applications and ensure accurate documentation and follow-up. • Process payments and refunds in compliance with departmental procedures. Required Skills & Knowledge: • Strong understanding of insurance billing, third-party payer procedures, and regulations. • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build effective working relationships. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or equivalent is required; Associate's or Bachelor’s degree preferred • Minimum of 2 years of experience offering financial counseling in a health care related field required.
