Waterford Public Schools serve approximately 2,400 students in grades PK-12. The District's facilities include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Waterford community strongly supports the public schools and has high expectations for staff and student. According to the State of Connecticut Next Generation Performance Accountability System, Waterford Public Schools ranks in the top third of K-12 school districts in the state. The Waterford Board of Education is a nine-member elected body. SUMMARY: The coach is responsible to the Director of Athletics for the planning, organization, supervision and training of the athletic team. The coach shall work within the applicable district, league, state and federal statutes, regulations and policies. The coach shall hold the required state certification. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. A. Instructs the team members in all levels in the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to be a productive member of the team. B. Supervises assistant coaches, team members and volunteers during all team activities. C. Organizes all practices and home competitions and coordinate with visiting coaches. D. Distributes and collects all required permission, health, insurance and other forms. E. Distributes the athletic code of behavior and ensures team members understand and abide by it. F. Inventories, issues and arranges for the care of uniform and equipment. G. Prepares the budget for the team. H. Works with community and parent organizations to foster community relations. I. Prepare workouts. J. Write meet line ups. K. Attend league and state meetings. L. Organize team boosters. M. On deck for swimming instruction. N. Report results to local newspapers. O. College recruitment for interested team members. P. In charge of team study halls (every Wednesday) It is acknowledged that coaches must complete a 45 hour coaching course to be certified to coach. They must also keep their CPR current yearly and their First Aid certification current every three years. Coaches are also responsible for earning 15 hours of CEU's every 5 years to keep their coaching certification current. Coaches undergo a yearly evaluation. A key component of this evaluation is taking a look at clinics and workshops they have attended to go towards the required CEU's that will help keep them updated in new concepts and make them better coaches. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, and frequently or occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
