Head of Compliance & Legal (Customer-Facing) — Stablecoins (Full-Time, Equity-Only)

Settl X builds agentic, explainable compliance for stablecoin rails: continuous KYB/KYT, FinPromOps, and audit-ready decision trails for exchanges, PSPs/PGs, and RWA platforms. We’re building the operating layer that turns regulatory obligations into shippable workflows.
Role (Full-Time, Equity-Only)
This is a full-time, equity-only role for a startup-minded compliance/legal leader who wants to build from zero and be customer-facing. You’ll sit at the intersection of law + compliance ops + product + GTM, helping design defensible programs and converting pilots → paid with a credible risk/ROI story.
What you’ll do (core)
• Own US-first compliance strategy for stablecoin rails: AML/BSA, sanctions, CDD/KYB, transaction monitoring, recordkeeping, governance
• Build the audit-proof layer: evidence standards, decision logs, SOPs, QA, exportable audit trails for bank/partner diligence + enterprise procurement
• Create repeatable customer assets: control maps, risk memos, procurement/security kits (DPA/SCCs where needed)
• Co-own GTM with founders: run compliance-led discovery, scope pilots, handle objections, support procurement, close narrative
• Support MAS/VARA expansion (~30%) by adapting controls + evidence without rebuilding everything
Must-haves
• 5+ years in US fintech/web3/payments legal or compliance (GC/compliance lead/MLRO-adjacent a plus)
• Hands-on experience operationalizing compliance: controls, SOPs, escalation paths, incident response, governance cadence
• Can reason about product/data flows (APIs/webhooks/event logs) for auditability (no coding required)
• Clear, structured writing: policies, playbooks, customer-facing risk narratives
• Commercial edge: you’ve personally closed work (retainers/projects/advisory) and understand discovery → pilot → procurement

• Trigger to CCO/Co-Founder track: 2 paid conversions where your compliance posture + customer-facing work materially drives close/retention
