Key Responsibilities: Coaching, Mentoring, and Supporting Student Success

As a City Year AmeriCorps member and Academic Tutor & Mentor, your role will be multifaceted, focusing on both individual student support and whole school initiatives. Your primary responsibilities will include:


Coaching and Mentoring Students:

Working with identified students 1:1 and in small groups to develop literacy and/or math skills through varied learning activities
Creating and implementing a behavior management system to foster a positive learning environment
Developing social-emotional skills through proven strategies of learning, practicing, reflection, and repetition
Collaborating with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze, and monitor individual student progress


Supporting Whole School Initiatives:

Participating in extended day and virtual programming for students, including academic enrichment, homework support, and recreational activities
Co-leading events or programs that recognize and appreciate student growth and achievement in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
Engaging students, parents/guardians, and community members in education or social issues through themed events


Creating an Engaging Learning Environment:

Collaborating with teachers to create a safe, healthy, and engaging classroom space




Essential and Preferred Qualifications

While prior experience in all these tasks is not necessary, we do require:


Eligibility Requirements:

Being a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
Having a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree
Having served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
Agreeing to complete a background check

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with diverse student populations and communities
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment
