Full Stack Engineer (Founding Engineer)

This is a remote position. Rust Belt Resources has partnered with a growing technology consultancy & software development firm transforming how mid-market companies leverage enterprise-grade software and AI. The team builds custom B2B solutions and products for businesses ($10M-$200M revenue) that lack the internal resources to execute digital transformation. This is a quality-focused, AI-first firm with strong engineering foundations and a fully distributed team of experienced partners who prioritize speed, transparency, and exceptional work. This role is for the first engineering hire working directly with the founding team. You'll build greenfield products, work across client projects, and have influence on technical architecture and engineering culture as the team scales. What you'll do: ● Design and build full-stack applications from the ground up across Python/TypeScript backends, React frontends, and cloud infrastructure ● Architect data pipelines, third-party integrations, and API-first systems that power products and client solutions ● Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into applications, working with models via APIs to deliver intelligent features ● Collaborate directly with clients to understand requirements, provide technical guidance, and deliver business value ● Own features end-to-end from initial design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration ● Establish engineering best practices and development workflows as a founding team member Requirements You should apply if you: ● Have 5+ years of professional experience building production platforms ● Have shipped products or features that users rely on and can navigate tradeoffs between speed and quality ● Are proficient in Python and TypeScript with experience building maintainable, scalable backends ● Have foundational skillset and understanding of modern frontend development (TypeScript/React) ● Are comfortable with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) configurations and deployments ● Have experience leveraging AI coding assistants like Cursor, Claude Code, and other LLM powered tools while maintaining high standards for code quality, architecture, and maintainability ● Have experience with data integrations and working with complex data flows ● Can work directly with clients, translating business needs into technical solutions and communicating clearly ● Embody high agency: you identify problems, propose solutions, and follow through independently ● Bonus: experience training or fine-tuning ML models, familiarity with multiple cloud platforms, or data engineering background Benefits Why join? ● Competitive hourly rate ($90-140/hour) with path to full-time conversion (Competitive salary and 1st engineer equity) ● Full-time benefits include comprehensive health insurance and generous PTO ● Shape technical direction and engineering culture as the founding engineer ● Work directly with experienced founders on meaningful problems ● Fully remote with flexible schedule and trust to manage your own time
