The Front Loader Container Welder position involves skilled welding, brazing, and metal cutting work focused on the design, fabrication, and repair of parts, structures, and refuse dumpsters. The role requires operating various welding equipment and tools, maintaining safety standards, and performing tasks independently while adhering to the City of Abilene's core values.
Responsibilities
Ā Prepare all types of metal for fabrication.

Ā Lay-out, cut, and fit together materials for welding.
,
Ā Select proper welding heat and size and type of electrodes to obtain penetration and strength for welded materials.
,
Ā Fabricate parts in making repairs and modifications to structures and roll-off or front-load dumpsters.
,
Ā Braise, solder, and coat ferrous and nonferrous metals.
,
Ā Inspect, clean (brush), and grind welds.
,
Ā Maintain necessary records.
,
Ā Operate grounds keeping equipment.
,
Ā Operate a city vehicle daily to travel to different worksites.
,
Ā Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Ā Previous experience in the operation of welding equipment, gas torch equipment, plasma cutter, metal cut-off saw, table saw, drill press, handheld grinder, handheld drill, and other commonly used hand tools in welding is required.
,
Ā One (1) year of experience of welding and fabrication is required.
,
Ā Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for a successful job performance is required.
,
Ā Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in welding or approved welding experience is required.
,
Ā A valid Texas driver's license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
