French Language Translators/Interpreter- Remote
Description The Interpreter is responsible for facilitating communication for the limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions/appointments per day. Providing accurate translation of documents involving law enforcement and legal subjects.Transcribe audio files and translate them into target language and communicate fluently in English orally and in writing.Translate in accordance with designated style and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Translation: • Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hardcopy formats that not only contain facts but also some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances. • Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to subject field(s) and are strong enough to allow translator to operate successively in that field. Interpretation: • Able to interpret accurately. Normally consecutive interpretation is needed, but on rare occasions simultaneous interpretation may be requested. • Has good understanding of one or more regional dialects. Transcription: • Reviews audio or internet materials, transcribes with high degree of accuracy and expression. • Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports. • Has good understanding of one or more regional dialects. Gisting/Summarizing: • Is able to identify and accurately summarize factual points as well as abstract concepts. • Can triage documentation to isolate pertinent and nuanced info. • Master use of reference materials. Must possess computer skills, including MS Office, to be able to produce written translations and products and sufficient internet skills that will allow basic research on the Web. • Must possess excellent English-language verbal communication skills for giving briefings. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise • Proficient in translating between English and a foreign language • Proficient in interpreting between English and a foreign language • Experience in audio transcription • Experience as a professional translator, editor, transcriber, interpreter, journalist, writer, or legal professional • Familiarity with legal terminology • Willing to undergo a US government background check • Proficient in Microsoft Office Benefits Medical Insurance The coverage begins for the employee the on the first of the month following the first full 30 days of full-time employment for employees and their eligible dependents Cost to the employee to participate in the plan varies by the coverage selection and the number of dependents; and may be subject to collective bargaining agreement The employee may also elect to opt out of the County's medical insurance if proof of coverage is provided Under this arrangement, the employee is provided with an annual opt out payment.
