Project Overview:
Future of Us is a bold and vibrant force for political and social transformation, empowering young Asian Americans in Minnesota to harness their collective power. We cultivate a space where individuals can explore their identities, build lasting political momentum and engagement, and take action to challenge systemic barriers. Our work is rooted in storytelling, advocacy, and community building, ensuring that young Asian Americans are seen, heard, and influential in leadership and decision-making spaces.
We believe in breaking through barriers within our communities and in how we engage the broader public. We are courageous, confident, and forward-thinking, balancing diplomacy with bold action. At our core, we are storytellers, movement builders, and advocates who ask hard questions and seek solutions that drive lasting impact.
Future Of Us underwent a rebrand in June 2025, introducing a new name, refreshed mission and vision statements, and values that reflect who we are today. We are seeking a Freelance Writer to uplift our visibility and amplify our voice through community campaign storytelling, social media content, and key deliverables such as op-eds, press releases, and annual reports.
Objective: The Freelance Writer will embody the Future Of Us brand and tone to craft compelling, authentic, and strategic messaging for our community campaign. This includes developing written materials for social media, and deliverables such as op-eds, press releases, and annual reports that communicate our mission and impact to external audiences.
Budget: The total budget for this contract is $13,500.00 totaling 500 hours, covering work from June through December 2026. If the partnership continues, additional funding will be allocated for the following year.

Scope of Work: Beginning June 2026, the Freelance Writer will collaborate closely with the Communication Manager through bi-weekly meetings and on a need basis to align projects, tasks, and events. The contractor will also provide writing and communications support to the Program Managers and Executive Director, ensuring consistency and clarity across all organizational messaging. This role will contribute to marketing and communications efforts - both internal and external - by developing content that reflects the Future Of Us brand tone, values, strategic priorities.
The freelance writer will:
1. MN Narratives: Conduct interviews and develop scripts summarizing key stories and insights, and collaborate with the organization’s team to highlight community voices and program impact.
2. Social Media: Write engaging captions that align with campaign messaging and brand voice, supporting staff in amplifying their program work and organizational initiatives.
3. Deliverables: Draft quarterly op-eds, press releases and contribute to the creation of annual reports, working with team members to ensure their projects and achievements are accurately represented.
4. Supplemental Materials: Develop messaging, narratives and public statements as needed, providing writing and communication support to the organization’s team across departments.
Timeline: The contract period runs from June 2026 through December 2026, with the possibility of extension into the following year based on performance and funding availability.
Evaluation Criteria: The Communications Manager will meet bi-weekly with the contractor to review progress, assign new projects, and address any concerns or adjustments. Collaboration with staff across the organization will be expected to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging.

• Will this be on-site, hybrid or remote?
Remote with flexibility for in-person on a need basis.
• Will mileage be reimbursed?
Mileage will be reimbursed for the contractor using their personal vehicle outside of the 7 county metro area in Minnesota.
• How will invoices and payment be arranged?
The contractor will invoice Future Of Us monthly and receive payment within 30 business days.
• What will bind the contractor?
Future Of Us will issue a contract outlining the terms and expectations of the engagement.
