Freelance Researcher / Writer - AI & Climate Report (Project)

We’re looking for a freelance researcher/writer to support the development of a 20,000-word report for the Climate Action Coalition’s AI Taskforce exploring the role of AI in the energy transition.This is a research and editorial-focused role - rather than opinion-led writing. Start date: any time from now (and no later than 1st May) until 15th June, when the report will be going to print.About the Company:The Climate Action Coalition is a mission-driven global community focused on the urgent delivery of our ​2030 climate goals. Chaired by the Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, it seeks to counter the recent row backs on climate, acting as a driving force for advancing the positive narrative on the transition to a low-carbon economy. ​Launched and supported by international climate leaders including Secretary John Kerry, the Coalition focuses on the practical steps required to accelerate the energy transition, get investment flowing where it’s needed, and share solutions that can be replicated at speed and scale.Next month we are launching the AI Taskforce to examine how artificial intelligence can accelerate the global energy transition - while ensuring that the rapid growth of digital infrastructure, particularly data centres, aligns with climate and clean power goals.​The Taskforce, run in partnership with Google, will convene a series of five high-level virtual roundtables culminating in a short high-impact report to be launched at the Climate Innovation Forum, the opening flagship event of London Climate Action Week on Monday 22nd June 2026.​The ReportThe report will:​Identify how AI can accelerate the deployment and optimisation of clean power systems. ​Develop recommendations for sustainable data centre growth aligned with net zero. ​Highlight international case studies demonstrating scalable impact. ​Propose models for public-private collaboration and global standards. ​Showcase best use cases and highlight where caution is required.ResponsibilitiesSupport the development of a clear narrative and report structureResearch and synthesise topics across AI, climate, and technologyEdit ‘evidence’ from a series of virtual roundtables, in which experts will share perspectives Collate and edit case studies of proven solutions from Taskforce members and elsewhereWork collaboratively with the Chair of the Coalition who will be instrumental in guiding the shape and content of the reportRequirements2-6 years’ experience in research, journalism, policy, or content writingA strong interest/background in climate/sustainabilityFamiliar with AI, technology, or digital policy (professional or personal interest)A clear, structured writer with strong editorial judgementComfortable working independently and to deadlinesFreelance experience or currently open to project-based workProject details:Short-term freelance project Remote, UK-based preferredBenefitsHigh-profile exposure: Opportunity to contribute to a report launched at London Climate Action Week, with input from global leaders across climate, policy, and technology Work with influential stakeholders: Collaborate with senior figures including Chris Skidmore and contributors from organisations such as Google Meaningful, real-world impact: Help shape practical recommendations on how AI can accelerate the energy transition and influence decision-making at scale Strong portfolio piece: Deliver a substantial, published report tied to a globally recognised climate platform
