Freelance, On Call Franchise Law Of Counsel

Sagsharma is a boutique corporate and business law firm based in Manhattan known for providing tailored and client-focused legal services. The firm is expanding its franchise and multi-unit business practice to support clients scaling through franchising and licensing models. We are seeking competent, independent, freelance of counsel with experience providing end-to-end franchise law representation, to support a growing pipeline of franchisor/ franchisee clients.
Role Description
This is a contract, remote role for a Freelance, On Call Franchise Law Of Counsel. As Of Counsel, you will be responsible for advising clients on all aspects of franchise law matters. This role is not defined by a minimum or maximum hourly requirement but rather counsel will be approached on an "as-needed" basis for support on franchise law legal matters.
Qualifications
The attorney should be prepared to assist the firm with a range of franchise-related matters, including:
• Drafting, updating, and reviewing Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs) Do not apply if you have never reviewed an FDD
• Preparing, reviewing, and revising Franchise Agreements and related franchise documentation
• Advising on franchise system structuring and compliance
• Assisting with state-level franchise registration and renewal filings
• Counseling prospective franchisors on franchise system development
• Advising franchisees on FDD review and franchise agreement negotiations
• Assisting with franchise relationship issues and compliance matters
Requirements
• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Do not apply if you are not a U.S. licensed lawyer) New York strongly preferred
• 3+ years of relevant experience in franchise law
• Ability to engage in direct client coordination and counsel
• Ability to manage matters independently, competently, and with minimal oversight
• Meeting deadlines is a must
