Flight Attendant (Japanese Speakers)

Remote Full-time
Description

Hawaiian Airlines is looking for a Japanese Language Qualified Flight Attendant to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional service while ensuring passenger safety and comfort on flights serving Japanese-speaking travelers.

Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants are responsible for attending preflight briefings to discuss important details such as weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight lengths, and the food and beverage services offered, as well as the number of guests onboard. They greet and direct guests to their assigned seats, answer flight-related questions, and assist with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or under seats. Flight attendants demonstrate the use of safety equipment, such as seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets, and explain emergency procedures before takeoff. They walk the aisles to ensure guest compliance with safety regulations, address safety infractions, and resolve challenging guest situations. In case of emergencies, flight attendants direct and assist guests with evacuation procedures, such as during an emergency landing. They also provide food and beverage services, handle payments for onboard products like beverages, meals, and duty-free sales, and administer first aid when needed. Flight attendants make written and verbal reports of any emergency or safety incidents that occur during the flight, prepare the aircraft and guests for landing by following standard procedures, and must satisfactorily complete annual FAA-approved recertification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.

Additionally, flight attendants must be able to obtain and maintain an AOA Badge and stay current with emergency procedures as per Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations. They work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and interact professionally with both colleagues and guests to ensure a positive travel experience. This includes providing prompt and pleasant responses to guest inquiries, requests, and complaints. Flight attendants must possess the ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong, escalating concerns as needed. They work in various climates and locations worldwide, fly at high altitudes, and meet the physical demands of the job, including assisting ill or incapacitated passengers and crew members, evacuating the aircraft during a fire, handling and operating oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers, removing and lifting emergency windows weighing up to 60 pounds, and jumping down the emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. A professional image is required, meaning no visible body art (including tattoos), facial or multiple piercings, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style while in the Flight Attendant uniform and in public areas. Applicants must demonstrate strong customer service skills and be able to effectively resolve challenging customer situations. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential. Must be able to proficiently speak advanced/business-level Japanese and read Romaji or Kanji. Candidates must also successfully complete an unpaid, FAA-approved, eight-week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines. The ability to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S. is required, along with the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be able to reach a vertical height of 82 inches, fit into a cabin crew jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened, and complete pre-employment requirements such as a drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and background check. A valid passport is necessary, as well as the ability to obtain visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines. Additionally, applicants must have the legal right to travel to all countries served by the airline and ensure that their travel documents remain valid throughout training and employment. Flight attendants will work in environments with varying climatic conditions, gravitational loads caused by turbulence, and levels of cabin pressurization, and may be required to stand for extended periods, perform stooping, twisting, and handle cabin equipment. Current employees must be in good standing with the company, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, as Hawaiian Airlines does not sponsor employment visas.

Preferred qualifications include a college education or degree and two years of direct customer experience in hospitality or the airline industry, or four years of customer service experience in fields such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services.
